Elevated phytohaemagglutinin‐induced skin‐swelling response at an intermediate number of MHC class II alleles in bluethroat nestlings

چکیده
Genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) are crucial for adaptive immunity, and theory predicts that optimal number alleles is intermediate rather than maximal. Support such an optimum in MHC allele count has mainly been demonstrated studies on parasite load reproductive traits. In this study we tested if class II (MHCII) based positively selected sites was correlated with increased skin-swelling response to two consecutive injections phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) bluethroat Luscinia svecica nestlings. We found nestlings were closer population mean their had a higher first injection, supporting intermediate, alleles. After second PHA skin swelling associated MHCII only at among-brood level, paternity (extra-pair offspring larger within-pair offspring). therefore conclude partly count, but additional factors must be involved both female extra-pair mate choice species.

Ancestral polymorphism in exon 2 of bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) MHC class II B genes.
The genes of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) are important model genes for understanding selective forces in evolution. Here, we document, using a cloning and sequencing approach, high polymorphism at the exon 2 of the MHC class II B (MHCIIB) genes in the bluethroat (Luscinia svecica); a minimum of 61 unique alleles were detected in 20 individuals, and at least 11 functional loci. In...
متن کاملMHC class II transport at a glance.
The cellular immune system functions in large part to recognize and destroy foreign pathogens. This process is aided by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), which internalize, degrade and subsequently express small antigenic fragments from foreign bodies on their cell surfaces. The presentation of foreign antigen occurs on major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules, which bind to the...

MHC class II tetramers have emerged as an important tool for characterization of the specificity and phenotype of CD4 T cell immune responses, useful in a large variety of disease and vaccine studies. Issues of specific T cell frequency, biodistribution, and avidity, coupled with the large genetic diversity of potential class II restriction elements, require targeted experimental design. Transl...

This study characterises the expressed MHC class II DRB gene and its genetic variation in exon 2 among 59 Alpine chamois (Rupicapra r. rupicapra) from several locations in the Eastern Alps plus one population in the Western Alps. The expressed DRB gene contains all the expected characteristics including all of the conserved residues found in other mammalian species. The isolated expressed DRB g...
متن کاملAnalysis of MHC class II DP, DQ and DR alleles in Crohn's disease.
BACKGROUND Although inflammation in Crohn's disease is believed to be mediated by activated T cells, genotyping of all MHC class II alleles in white people with this disease has not been reported. AIMS To perform a detailed molecular analysis of HLA DPB, DQB, and DRB genes in white patients with Crohn's disease and controls in order to determine if the inheritance of any class II genes confer...
